Gremmoire connections
Connect your assistant to Gremmoire
The Public Reading tool lets your assistant browse the forums, look through the boards and catch up on open chat rooms. Ask it to find something or catch you up, and it will give you links back to the discussion.
You can use it without signing in to Gremmoire. To join in from your assistant, add the Posting tool for posts, replies and room messages. You can also connect your IMs, or use the Drafting tool to save something for later.
Set up the Public Reading tool
You’ll need an assistant app with MCP support. Look in its Apps or Connectors settings for an option to add an MCP server, then follow these steps.
- Copy the connection address.Connection address
- Add Gremmoire in your assistant’s settings.
Add a new MCP server, call it “Gremmoire” and paste the address above. If your app asks for a connection type, choose HTTP or Streamable HTTP. For authentication, choose “None” to start with the Public Reading tool.
- Try a request.
Show me recent Gremmoire forum threads and give me links to read them.
If it can’t find the tools yet, reopen the chat or check that the connection is enabled.
Give your assistant the instructions
This guide tells your assistant how to connect and what it can do with Gremmoire. Copy it into a chat or attach the text file. If your app lets the assistant set up connections, it can do that part for you; otherwise it will walk you through the settings. You’ll still need an app that supports MCP.

Choose what your assistant can do
Link your Gremmoire account to post, save drafts, use your IMs or catch up on rooms you’ve entered. You can use the Public Reading tool without doing this.
- Sign in and open Account → Connections.
- Unlock account editing, choose “Assistant (MCP)” and give the connection a name you’ll recognise.
- Choose the tools you want: Posting sends posts and room messages, IM reads and sends your IMs, and Drafting saves text for later. Then create the connection.
- Copy the access token shown there and save it in your assistant’s connection settings. If asked, choose “Bearer token” for authentication. The token is shown once, so save it before leaving the page. Keep it out of chat and prompts.
Send now or save for later
The Posting tool sends your posts, replies and room messages straight from your assistant. It uses your Gremmoire account and follows the same posting rules as the site. Enable it only for an app you want to post as you.
The Drafting tool saves a thread, board post, reply or chat message without sending it. You can reopen and edit the draft through your assistant, or use its private link to review and post it here. Tell your assistant whether you want to send now or save a draft.
An account connection lasts up to seven days. Signing out of the Gremmoire session you used to create it also disconnects it. To disconnect it yourself, open Account → Connections and select “Revoke”. Saved drafts are kept for up to 24 hours.
For a member room, enter it on Gremmoire first. Your assistant or chat client can reopen it and keep it open while your membership and password access are still valid. The IM tool only accesses your own IMs; friends and message-request rules still apply. Long-form private messages, staff tools and account-security controls stay separate.
Follow Gremmoire with RSS
Add a feed to your RSS reader to see new posts and site updates. Your assistant can read the same feeds with the RSS tool.

Putting Gremmoire links on your forum?
Whitelist the address below for public link previews. Gremmoire serves Open Graph and Twitter cards in the page HTML, so your scraper can read them without running JavaScript.
oEmbed setup
The JSON endpoint returns a link card with its title, public author and a thumbnail when its dimensions are known. It serves metadata only; there is no iframe player. Public pages advertise their exact discovery address in the HTML head.
Public profiles, Forum threads, Board posts, Worlds and published Reader selections have their own previews. Private messages, account pages and unavailable posts stay out. The endpoint needs no account or access token.
Building your own chatbox?
You can use these tools for a chat client of your own. Pull messages, keep the chatbox up to date and send replies without opening a separate Gremmoire page each time.
API and chat-client setup
The JSON API uses the same tools and permissions as MCP. POST a tool name and its arguments to the address below. The Public Reading tool works without signing in; account tools use your connection token in the Authorization header.
Read or select the instructions
Keep the returned cursor for the next pull and send up to 100 message IDs currently on screen. Add messages, apply updates and remove IDs listed in removedIds. Follow hasMore for another page, waiting at least five seconds between pulls. If access ends, clear the private chatbox and stop polling. For IMs, use targetHandle instead of room. For member rooms, call keep_chat_room_open about every 30 seconds while the room is open.
For rooms, refresh the displayed window about once a minute to pick up older messages restored by moderation. Use after with the oldest displayed ID minus one and follow hasMore. If you only show recent messages, use after:0. Keep your normal forward cursor when merging the refresh.
Generate one requestId for each send and reuse it with the same text if its reply gets lost. That keeps a retry from posting twice. If the result is still unconfirmed, check the conversation before doing anything else. Your client should keep tokens in protected settings and pass them only in the request header.
If something doesn’t connect
- My app doesn’t have an MCP option.
- It needs remote MCP support to use these tools. You can still read and post on Gremmoire normally.
- It asks me to sign in before I can use the Public Reading tool.
- Choose “None” under authentication. If you’re linking your Gremmoire account, choose “Bearer token” instead and enter the token from Connections. An app that only offers OAuth won’t work with this connection.
- It says the token is invalid or expired.
- Revoke the old connection in Account → Connections, create another and update the token in your app’s settings.
- A member room won’t load.
- Open that room on Gremmoire first. Your assistant can read rooms you have access to, but it can’t join them for you.
- It can read posts, but Posting, IM or Drafting isn’t working.
- Open Account → Connections and create a connection with the tool you want enabled. Then update the token in your assistant’s settings.
