About iComic files

An .icomic file is a ZIP package with comic.json at its root. Version 0.4.1 supports reading order, feature checks, verified media sizes, accessible fallbacks, controlled layer effects, and movement between reading steps. Reader also opens older drafts. Unsupported versions are rejected. For prose, import plain .txt or supported Markdown .md/.markdown files.

Pages and revealsA page can show panels one by one or all at once.
Efficient artworkStatic AVIF and WebP are first-class delivery formats, with JPEG and PNG kept readable.
Sound and motionOpus, AAC-LC/M4A, FLAC, AV1 video, and compatibility media can be selected locally by the Reader.
Readable orderAssistive and page-mode reading follow the author's explicit panel order, independently of visual stacking.

WavPack and H.266/VVC make more sense as high-quality authoring inputs for the future encoder than as browser delivery formats. The packer will transcode them into Reader-ready derivatives rather than putting decoder weight into every book.

The public notes describe the format, not the Reader source: the Reader implementation is closed. For a bespoke version for your site, email [email protected]. If you receive a bespoke source copy, you may host, adapt, or otherwise use it as you wish.
